One of our wonderful Board members, Kathy McNamara, has been diagnosed with a serious blood disease and will need a stem cell transplant. The success of her treatment is directly related to the closeness of the match with the donor.
Any of us could be the donor that Kathy needs. The way to determine your compatibility is through a simple blood test. Your information will be entered on a national bone marrow registry which is scanned daily to find a match for people needing transplants.
The process for this differs from state to state. In many cases it is through the local Red Cross. To get the information about how you can be tested in your area, go to the web site of the National Marrow Donor Program. http://www.marrow.org or call 800-627-7692.
Kathy will have a full evaluation of her situation next week and treatment will begin shortly thereafter. Your help is needed immediately.
