Voyageur Triathlon September 3rd, 2005--a New Tradition of work, fun, beauty and camaraderie on Birch Lake and in Superior National Forest!
6+ miles of paddling 1 mile of portaging 6+ miles of running 2-3 hours
How it works:
· Wake up early, drink some juice, stretch and get ready.
· Pick your partner; you will be assigned a partner if you don’t have one. No triples allowed.
· We value an even playing field, so canoes are assigned (random lottery, all aluminum Grummans). Please do not bring your own. All paddles are Mohawk plastic/aluminum straight-shaft, but you can choose your length. Your own personal flotation device (PFD) may be used, or we can supply you with one free of charge.
· 8:40 briefing, 9 AM start.
· Free snack and lunch afterward, swimming and showers available to all race participants.
· There will be awards in gender/age classes (11-20, 21-30, etc.).
· 10% Discount at the OB store.
Options:
· Stay overnight on Friday in screened-in, open-air cabins. Tent camping also available. Both are free, but you should bring a sleeping bag.
· Pre-race dinner at the Homeplace base camp for $5 per person, 6pm-9pm. Indicate meat, veggie or vegan.
· PFD’s (lifejackets) available upon request, free of charge.
Registration: Call 218.365.7790 and speak with Jennie to pre-register (recommended so that we can plan for numbers). Event registration at the base will be open from 5pm to 10pm on Friday, September 2nd, and from 7:00 to 8:30am on the 3rd. The Voyageur Triathlon will be held in any weather, postponed for later in the day if needed.
Cost: $50 donation (or more). $10 of your donation will be used for funding the event; the remaining donation is tax-deductible and goes to the Voyageur Outward Bound School, a values-based, non-profit organization, working to promote the discovery of self and potential. We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard.
