Travel through the Sawtooth Wilderness Area, the
North Cascades National Park and the Pasayten Wilderness in the
rugged reaches of Washington. This area is nicknamed the "American
Alps," for its open cliff faces and deep glacially carved valleys,
characteristic of the European Alpine environment. This is the perfect
setting for multi-day ridge traverses that capture alpine glow sunsets
and sunrises over the 100's of unnamed peaks. Climbing in this same
area provides a few of the "fifty classic climbs" in North
America. The area has deep valleys, big mountains and glaciers.
Forests carpet the lower mountains in this remote region with very
dramatic and rugged terrain, and high exposure.
The Puget Sound, nestled between two prominent mountain
ranges in the North West: Olympic Coast Range and the Cascade Range,
is an ultimate cruising ground with large expanses of sparkling
water and mountain scenery. Sightings of orca whales, seals, porpoise
and eagles are very common. There are over 400 islands, in the Sound,
rimmed by rugged shorelines, pristine beaches and mountains.
